What is medicine with meaning?

Picture this, you get an emergency call at 6am for a Category One caesarean and help deliver a healthy baby girl.
You leave mother and baby, who are doing well, to start your shift in the emergency department, where you receive a severely short of breath older gentleman and through an x-ray diagnose an end stage lesion.
From there, you're called out for a road retrieval of a 33 year old woman whose been in a motor vehicle accident. You stabilise her and get her off to Perth.
There was no anaesthetist, palliative care specialist or emergency physician on sight. It was you, the rural generalist. The medicine you practised was truly cradle to grave. For each person you interacted with that day, your job meant something to them.
That is medicine with meaning.
