GP during COVID-19: Dr Kate Tunstill
Posted on 22nd Jun 2020
Being a GP registrar in the time of COVID-19 has been a challenge. There are many issues associated with COVID-19 that we are all facing, however, the way that doctors all over the country, and all over the world, have banded together is awe-inspiring and has helped me get through this time.
I am very lucky to be part of an incredibly supportive organisation providing care to remote Aboriginal communities in the north of Western Australia who have gone above and beyond to care for these vulnerable patients, as well as striving to make sure that each staff member is well-supported.
Luckily, I am in a salaried position and do not have to worry about having hours cut due to lack of patients like my colleagues in private practice. I know many GP registrars who have lost their jobs in private practice, who are not able to fellow due to decreased patient hours. I know of GPs who have lost practices. It is a terribly stressful time for many doctors, in particular registrars. Please take the time to look after each other.
