If you choose the rural generalist pathway, you will complete a minimum of 12 months training in a procedural or non-procedural skill (24 months if you choose surgery), enabling you to provide primary care within a community general practice setting, as well as advanced services within a rural hospital.
With WAGPET, you can train in:
- anaesthetics
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
- emergency medicine
- internal medicine
- mental health
- obstetrics and gynaecology
- paediatrics
- palliative care
- population health
- remote medicine.
When you train in an additional skill, you become a rural generalist with a sub-specialty of your choice. When the training year is completed prior to your GP terms, you have the opportunity to utilise these skills in community GP.
